The Journal (or more properly The History of the Army of George 1st) existed as a number of loose pages until bound together by Oliver Keef.
It is profusely illustrated with maps of the various territories and engagements described in its pages.
All the battles are given dates, if not in the main text then in an appendix at the back of the book.
It seems probable that the dates given for battles are the real dates on which they were fought using the toy soldiers of the army, mainly from 1873 to 1875, then less frequently from 1876 right up to 1894.
The entries from October 17th 1875 are made in a different hand, possibly that of George Keefe's brother Herbert.
